This summer, our city is helping to promote road safety through an outreach campaign aimed at reducing the number of traffic incidents involving motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians.
You might be surprised to learn that last year, our city saw 99 incidents involving motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians on city streets. That is about two per week. Our outreach campaign, “Respect is a Two Way Street: Be Aware, Stay Alive,” seeks to improve the awareness of motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists who share our city streets. I encourage you to visit bikesantaclarita.com to find out what simple tips you can use to prevent a tragedy.
I’m pleased to let you know that this summer, we are celebrating the 25th anniversary of our free Concerts in the Park series, presented by First Entertainment Credit Union. Every Saturday night from July 12 through Aug. 30, the city will host a free concert at Central Park beginning at 7 p.m.
This year’s concert lineup features a mix of our most popular concert performers over the years. Food and beverages will be available for sale. We encourage you to bring your family, a blanket or chairs and enjoy the sounds of summer at Central Park.
More information about the City’s free Concerts in the Park series is available on our website at www.santa-clarita.com/concerts.
Thank you for your support and participation in our city. Please feel free to email me any ideas or suggestions you might have at kstriplin@santa-clarita.com.
Ken Striplin is city manager of the city of Santa Clarita.

Yes I’ve noticed that either the cars aren’t really being careful around bicyclists and pedestrians walking and riding on the sides of the road if there’s no bike path. Like wise some of the bicyclists and pedestrians don’t watch what their doing either. I think we all need to be more aware and stop racing down the streets and pretending were really good drivers.
