Deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station have arrested a suspected car thief after he refused to come out of a Valencia apartment complex Thursday morning.
The suspect, a 28-year-old Caucasian male, surrendered at approximately 1:45 p.m. after deputies deployed tear gas, said Shirley Miller, the public information officer with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. No injuries were reported.
At approximately noon, the Special Enforcement Bureau was called to bring the suspect out of the building and cleared the area, Miller said.
Armed deputies surrounded the apartment complex and the surrounding units were evacuated, Miller said.
Two people, an adult male and female, were detained this morning at approximately 10:00 p.m., said Miller.
Wiley Canyon Preschool, Sunshine Learning Centers was on lockdown due to the incident, according to school officials.
The SCV Sheriff’s Station received a call about a man seen with the allegedly stolen car around 7:38 a.m., said Lt. Rob Hahnlein with the SCV Sheriff’s Station.
The car was allegedly stolen from a Los Angeles Police Department service area and brought back to Santa Clarita, which prompted an investigation by Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials.
A GPS system was used to track the car back to the Provence Apartments, at 28100 McBean Parkway, in Valencia, Miller said.

At that point you should just give up. Ha Why wait to be gassed?
Saw the helicopter circling the area glad they got him
I wish they’d give names
Horrible day! My client live in this complex the sheriff close the entrance and my lady has many health problems! I have a terrible day! Thanks they arrested!
That’s weird they would put an old orchard school and sunshine on lockdown since it’s no where near the Provence apartment complex
I thought the same thing
“NOT IN THE AWSOME TOWN”!!!!??????
What’s going on in SCV ? The law enforcement are loosing track , need to be more on top , a lot bad things is happening here …
Nope. It’s the fact that you know about it faster via the Internet. That’s it.
Prop 47 had done a real number to the city. People who normally get arrested for felony shop lifting are not being held longer than a few hours… then they’re back out to steal your stuff… lock your car doors!
Repeal prop 47. Takes care of that. Read the props you vote for.

Its about time scv sheriff is doing something aside from picking on high schoolers. Maybe they’ll start an investigation on our meth problem
Calvin Olbes there we go
No comment about how the terrible crime is in Valencia from the cc folks. So shut it west side and stanch.
It seems to me that LASD was on top of it and extinguished it fairly quick. From what I read the car was taken from an LAPD service area at 7:38, and the suspect was apprehended at 1:45 by LASD…that’s a six hour turn-around from the time the car was stolen to the guy “surrendering” after not coming out of an apartment. I say good work by Sheriff Department and maybe LA City Police should bump up the cameras on their service lot. Just saying.
