Every month, thousands of residents head over to Old Town Newhall where the streets come to life with new, free themed events and activities at Thursdays @ Newhall, hosted every Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. May’s event will include the weekly Farmer’s Market, a “Red” themed Art Slam event, and a “Rock the Bike” SENSES block party.
“May is a very exciting month for Santa Clarita. With the Amgen Tour of California riding through the community in just a few weeks, the City is thrilled to host an array of activities revolving around the bike including our monthly Thursdays @ Newhall SENSES event,” commented Mayor Bob Kellar.
On Thursday, May 2, 2013 the newest art-inspired Thursdays @ Newhall event, Art Slam, returns with a “Red” themed celebration. Hosted every first Thursday from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., Art Slam is a free interactive art happening that features local and regional visual artists, performers, and much more.
May’s Art Slam event will feature art installations and exhibits with the color red as the main focus of each piece including red dyes, red juices, red wine, and red produce. Red interactive installations will be on the corner of Lyons and Main Street with several galleries set up in Old Town Newhall businesses. Guests can also experience a pop-up sculpture garden, shades of red splatter pain activity, and more than 60 pieces of red artwork displayed on an extra-large art wall designed by artists of all ages, styles and interests.
In collaboration with a variety of Santa Clarita cycling events surrounding the stage three finish and stage four start of the Amgen Tour of California on May 14 and May 15, SENSES will host a “Rock the Bike” themed block party on Thursday, May 16, from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. on Main Street. This event will serve as the hub for all cycling enthusiasts featuring live music, gourmet food trucks, street performers and other activities.
In addition to ArtWalk and SENSES, Thursday @ Newhall also features the weekly Farmers Market with fresh, seasonal fruits, produce, and specialty food items. The popular, street-fair style event takes place every Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Main Street. Coastal Pacific, which is known as one of Southern California’s best market operators, manages the weekly event and brings a variety of new and returning vendors to Santa Clarita each week.
