CLAREMONT, Calif. – In ideal racing conditions, The Master’s College men’s track and field team toed the line for the first time at the Rossi Relays. After putting in quality training in the weeks heading into the race, the Mustangs held hopes of posting better marks from previous years.
Sophomore Samuel Jaimes (Canyon Country, CA) clinched both a school record and an overall victory in the fourth heat of the 100-meters in a blistering time of 11.25 seconds.
A group of Mustangs, consisting of Tim Gutierrez (Santa Clarita, CA), Andrew Orona (Newhall, CA), Michael Sciarra (Orange, CA), and Skyler Mikesell (Ft. Wayne, IN), set a school record while competing in the 4×800 relay coming through in a respectable time of 8:15.35 seconds.
The 3,000-meter run showed breakthrough performances from Richard Buckelew (West Hills, CA), Ryan Freeman (Highland, CA), Sciarra, and freshman Tobin Bolter (Walnut Creek, CA) who closed hard for impressive times of 8:58.84 seconds, 8:59.56, 9:06.03, and 9:19.13, respectively.
“Sam Jaimes had a standout performance for the Mustang men today,” remarked TMC head coach Zachary Schroeder. “His new school record is a testament to the faithful work he has been putting in. The rest of the Mustangs enjoyed running some low key relays as they get ready for a chance to qualify for nationals in their focus event in two weeks.”
After gearing up for two weeks, the Mustangs will compete at the prestigious Occidental Distance Carnival on Friday, March 11 in Eagle Rock, CA.
