[KHTS] – A 20-year-old Castaic man was detained Saturday night after a routine traffic stop led to the discovery of lab materials used to make hash oil, a marijuana product, according to Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials.

Deputies from the SCV Station’s Summer Violent Crime Enforcement Program stopped the car for routine traffic violations at 6 pm Saturday and could smell marijuana coming from the vehicle.

castaic-man-detained-saturday-after-traffic-stop-leads-hash-lab-The driver was detained pending a narcotics investigation, and the vehicle was searched.  Inside the vehicle’s trunk, deputies found all the makings for a lab, used to extract hash oil (also known as honey oil) from marijuana.

Authorities seized hundreds of cans of butane, laboratory style glassware, a scale, a portable stove, and an undisclosed amount of finished product, officials said.

Hash oil is the most potent form of cannabis because of its high THC content, according to the release. The process of extracting the oil is extremely dangerous, and has been linked to a large number of explosions and house fires.

The suspect was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station for various narcotics related crimes, including possessing, manufacturing and transporting concentrated cannabis; all felonies.

His name is not being released at this time due to an on-going investigation.

  4. So dumb. Make it legal out there.

  5. David Day-Day Tre-vino hey look its bear hahahahaha !

  6. Woohoo, let’s smoke butane and make reference to weed being natural and safer than alcohol except that you’re smoking butane. Congratulations Idiots.

    • Doesn’t matter big guy: no victim, no crime. We are all paying for people to get assaulted, kidnapped and locked up in cages for harming no one.

    • Big ugly beards should be illegal instead.

    • Dakota Short says:

From somone who’s familiar w making wax, there are other ways to extract. And even if you use butane you spend days on end expelling the butane.
And I’ll spend my life smoking, you spend yours drinking and well see who’s happier and healthier at the end k?

    • Giovanni, I agree with you, my point was only that he was an idiot, not that that he deserves to go to jail for 5 years.

Dakota, I am not an anti marijuana crusader. I support your right to smoke marijuana or hash or even BHO. I am also very familiar with the wax making process and I am aware of other extraction methods such as CO2. But this idiot wasn’t using CO2, he was using butane.

If you spend your life smoking butane extracted hash you may find yourself with respiratory health issues that someone who simply smokes the flower or water extracted hash doesn’t. Good luck to you.

The weed is safer than alcohol argument is valid until you add butane. This is why hippies and stoners use hemp wick rather than a lighter for their bong loads kids.

  7. Non violent offense from random searches.. Wtf?! Lame.

  8. Looks like it was going to be a delicious batch. Way to save the day officers.

It is a medical fact that cannibis oil shrinks several types of cancerous tumors as well as eases pain, nausea and migraines …. And it cures glaucoma. Look it up people. Prohibition has never worked for anyone except drug lords, the prison business and the military industrial complex. Make it legal and tax it.

  13. during the process, they extract the butane, i’m sure some people are better at it than others, but it still is part of the process..

  14. Ken Mottard says:

And it’s still illegal so they did stop crime.

  15. Dakota Short says:

Dumbass had the herb on him too. What an idiot

  16. A lot of that stuff looks like what I use to make beer.

  18. Keep finding these labs and busting them!

  19. Anna Rogers says:

The natural Marijuana that everyone wants legal is becoming obsolete on the street. It’s no longer a natural substance. There are too many things added to it so we’ll see in 10 years how all you weed smokers are then. I think we should make it legal – survival of the fittest! And recreation smoking is different than using to treat an illness. If anything it should be added as a prescription drug only.

    • This is the only product that has anything added to it, the Butane Hash Oil, BHO. They like to believe that 100% of the butane is expelled but its impossible to expel it 100% so they believe by using 5x refined butane that makes it better but its still butane, its just better butane. LOL. Here, put a little of this on your bong load and use this hemp wick because we don’t want any butane from that lighter. LOL

  20. Canabis oil cures cancer , google it

  21. Thank God, cannabis causes SOOO much violence! That guy might have assaulted someone with a bag of cheetos.

  25. To the left of the pressure cooker are two bags. I’m not familiar with what might be in those. Setup looked fairly complete. Butane was cheap. Should be using a closed loop system though with a hood in a lab.

CO2 although cleaner is too cold of a solvent in its natural liquid state and requires too much pressure to utilize it properly for the product intended. Sure it works very well for a medical grade product… But I don’t think a 20 year old was planning on doing this for medical purposes. Haha.

  35. Good question Claudia. In today’s society we are living in. It’s just totally incredible of such idiotic things young people can do.

  36. Ohhh wow ruin a young mans life over nothing!! How stupid that this is illegal and alcohol is not. The reason being its illegal all had to do with money thats it…its pathetic. These cops need to be focusing on real crime.
