The Master’s University’s Hannah Ulibarri is now three for three in golf tournament wins this season as she took the top spot in the Embry-Riddle Fall Invitational Tuesday, Oct. 14 in Prescott, Ariz., despite extremely windy conditions.

Jacob Janho finished second on the men’s side with a three-round total of five-under 210 (67, 69, 74), three strokes back of Robert Brackett from Embry-Riddle on his home course.

“It was a good tournament for him and I’m glad he was able to break out a little bit,” said TMU Head Coach Luke Brueckner. “I know he’s not happy and he wanted to win, but he can taste that victory for sure and it’s coming. He had a good chance (in Arizona) and just had a couple of bad swings that got him. But he played great.”

Ulibarri fired a two-round total of one-under 142 (66, 76), six strokes better than ERAU’s Bellamaria Mantini. Ulibarri has four rounds in the 60s out of the seven she has played, a scoring average of 71.14 strokes per 18.

Her 66 in the first round ties the program’s lowest score for a round. She also fired a 66 in the second round of the Northwest Iowa National Invitational on Sep. 15.

“She’s just so solid,” Brueckner said. “And for her to play as well as she did on day two (with the wind blowing as much as 40 miles per hour) was awesome. Players were hitting the ball out of bounds left and right, and she only had one penalty shot the whole day. And we weren’t able to practice on that course at all before that final round, so she did a good job of playing her game with minimal preparation and just surviving the day.

The three rounds for the men and the two for the women were played at Antelope Hills North on Monday and the Capital Canyon Club on Tuesday. The second day was 18 for both the men and women, with winds blowing 40 miles per hour.

The women’s team finished third out of the four teams playing. And while the team, which only has four players, was 34 strokes behind first-place Embry-Riddle, the Lady Mustangs were just five strokes behind Arizona Christian in second.

Susan Tiffner finished T7 at 17-over (76, 84), with Halle Hagberg coming in T12 and Reece Benjamin 19th.

“The girls played great. I’m excited for them going into the spring,” Brueckner said. “I’m still so impressed that we only have four on the team and they stay in the fight against everybody. We are very close to playing really really well.”

The men’s team finished fourth out of the nine teams competing, which included six other GSAC teams. The four scorers for The Master’s finished 29 strokes behind first-place Embry-Riddle and just six behind third-place Benedictine Mesa.

Wes Opliger came in T14 with a 54-hole total of nine-over 224. Seth Bishop finished T23, Chalie Pollock T28 and Rye Winans 41st.

Both teams will finish out the fall season on Nov. 3 when they travel back to Arizona to play in the Firestorm Fall Invitational hosted by Arizona Christian at the Verrado Golf Club Founders in Buckeye, Ariz.
