The top five finalist will be announced in early March and the winner of the award will be presented at the ESPN College Basketball Awards Show live from Club Nokia in Los Angeles, Calif. on April 8, 2016. The award is named after Hall of Famer and 1959 NCAA Final Four Most Valuable Player Jerry West and recognizes the top shooting guards in Division I men’s college basketball.
Jacobs has averaged 12.1 points, 5.9 assists and 5.2 rebounds per game this season, helping lead the Trojans to a 17-5 record, their best start since the 1991-92 season. Jacobs has shown his versatility by posting three different types of double-doubles this season, one with points and rebounds (12 points/10 rebounds at UC Santa Barbara on Dec. 3), one with rebounds and assists (11 rebounds/10 assists vs. CSUN on Nov. 23) and one with points and assists (10 points/13 assists vs. Cal Poly on Dec. 17). His 13 assists vs. Cal Poly are tied for fifth on USC’s all-time single-game list and are tied for 13th in a game among all Division I players this season.
Jacobs leads all Pac-12 players in assists per game (5.9), is third in the conference in assist to turnover ratio (2.4) and ranks sixth in steals per game (1.5). He has posted five games with nine or more assists this season.
The athletic Jacobs also ranks second on the Trojans with 22 dunks and third in rebounds per game (5.2).
