LOS ANGELES – USC’s Katie Johnson is set to compete with the Mexican Women’s National Team as they begin the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) Olympic Qualifying Championship play today (Feb. 10) in Texas.
The tournament will be played in Dallas, Texas and Houston, Texas from February 10-21. From this championship two teams will qualify directly to the 2016 Women’s Olympic Soccer Tournament. Mexico will open up play at 3 p.m. PT today (Feb. 10) against Puerto Rico in Toyota Stadium, located in Dallas, Texas.
Johnson, a talented striker for the Trojans, sat out the 2015 season while rehabbing an injury, but has been a mainstay in the lineup since her true freshman season in 2012. The Monrovia, Calif., native netted 14 goals in 58 games over her first three seasons. Johnson also earned Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention in 2013 as a public policy, planning and development major. She will return to a stacked Trojan lineup in 2016. Johnson is one of five strikers named to the final 20-player roster.
Toyota Stadium in Dallas will host all Group A matches, while BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston will host all Group B matches, the semifinals and the final.
The Championship will be televised across the region, including coverage on NBC Sports in English and Telemundo in Spanish, in the United States.
