A 4.2 magnitude earthquake was felt in Los Angeles County Thursday at 1:47:07 p.m.
After being reviewed by a seismologist, it was determined to be centered four miles southeast of Newhall and four miles north-northwest of Pacoima and San Fernando. It occurred at a depth of 4.5 miles, give or take half a mile, below the Earth’s surface.
It was followed by several aftershocks measuring 2.9 or less on the Richter scale.
City of Santa Clarita spokeswoman Gail Ortiz said city staff members checked city facilities such as City Hall, the three libraries and the three Metrolink stations and found no damage.
Tony Bell, spokesman for county Mayor Michael D. Antonovich, said his office had nothing noteworthy to report.
