It was a rough weekend for the basketball teams from the Santa Clarita Valley.

The West Ranch boys, Canyon girls and College of the Canyons women were all eliminated from the playoffs.

The West Ranch boys, making their deepest playoff run in school history, lost to top-seeded Mission Viejo, 81-77, in overtime in the Southern Section Division 1A quarterfinals.

Ako Kaluna scored 27 points and Kevin Harris scored 21 points for West Ranch.

The Canyon girls lost to Keppel, 57-56, on a last-second, desperation shot in the quarterfinals of the Division 2AA playoffs.

The COC women lost to Cerritos College, 79-60, in the first round of the Southern California Regionals in the California Community College Athletic Association playoffs.

The COC women came into the playoffs with an eight-game winning streak and a share of the Western State Conference South Division championship.

But Cerritos jumped out to an early lead against COC. Angelica Sahagun led COC with 18 points and had 10 rebounds.

In high school baseball, Valencia won its first two games in the Easton Tournament, including 6-5, over Crespi. Brian Mundell hit a home run in each of the games. He hit a homer in the seventh inning to beat Crespi.

Valencia plays another 2-0 team in the Easton tournament on Tuesday. The Vikings take on Chaminade in the championship round.

The West Ranch baseball team beat Chatsworth, 7-6, in the Easton Tournament. J.D. Krauskopf drove in two runs and had two doubles. The Wildcats, winners of their first games in the tournament, play undefeated El Camino Real on Tuesday.

The Saugus baseball team lost to Harvard-Westlake and highly touted pitcher Max Fried, 11-2. He only gave up two hits and struck out nine in six innings.

In high school softball, Valencia’s Carly Mortensen pitched a no-hitter in her second game of the season at the Stu Penner Classic in Corona. The Vikings shut out Murrieta Valley, 1-0, in the second game of the tournament.

She struck out 11 and did not walk a batter.

She tossed a one-hitter in the first game. Valencia beat Canyon Springs, 6-0, behind another 11-strikeout performance from Mortensen.

In hockey, the Kings are in Nashville for a game against the Predators tonight. The Kings snapped a four-game losing streak, 4-0, against the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday. Dustin Brown notched a hat trick and goaltender Jonathan Quick recorded his NHL-leading seventh shutout.
