The southbound I-5 transition road to the northbound State Route 14 is closed for the investigation of a suicide. The closure is expected to last four hours.
A male adult stopped his car shortly after 2:30 p.m. on the transition road of the southbound I-5 to the northbound SR-14 and shot himself. The search for the gun, which fell over the side of the freeway, and the investigation of the shooting has closed down the transition road for several hours.
The victim is in traffic lanes on the overpass, but the weapon may have fallen over the side of the overpass and landed near The Old Road and San Fernando Road. The Old Road and San Fernando Road in that area have been closed to facilitate the search.
UPDATE: Officers have located the gun and all traffic lanes beneath the freeway on The Old Road, San Fernando Road and Sierra Highway are open.
According to Sgt. Matthew Hill of the California Highway Patrol, units patrolling the area came upon a vehicle blocking traffic and found the man. They immediately attempted CPR, which they continued until the Los Angeles County Fire Department arrived and continued lifesaving efforts. The man died at the scene.
