Sheriff press release, 2/12/2013:
On Monday, February 11, 2013, at approximately 5:30pm a women and her young child were carjacked at knifepoint while parked in the parking lot of the “AM/PM” on 60th Street West and Avenue L-8, in the city of Lancaster. The women and her child were able to get out of the vehicle safely before 21 year-old Palmdale resident, Dillon McCloud, took off with the victim’s 2005 Black Pontiac vehicle.
Approximately two hours later, with the help of the vehicle’s GPS tracker, deputies located McCloud and the stolen vehicle in the area of 50th Street West and Avenue K-12. It was apparent McCloud knew the deputies had spotted him when he began to weave in and out of a nearby residential area and refused to stop the vehicle after deputies initiated a traffic stop. The deputies began to go in pursuit of McCloud and the stolen vehicle through the Quartz Hill area. Due to the fact McCloud failed to stop at several stop signs and was traveling at a high rate of speed the LASD helicopter began to track the vehicle.
McCloud headed southbound over Godde Hill Road and continued southbound on Bouquet Canyon Road for approximately 20 miles. Preparing for McCloud’s arrival at the bottom of Bouquet Canyon Road and Vasquez Canyon Road, deputies placed a spike strip on the roadway. Within minutes the vehicle ran over the strip and instantly blew a tire. McCloud ran from the vehicle and was detained in the backyard of the 21000 block of Aliminos Drive, in the City of Saugus.
McCloud was transported to Palmdale Sheriff’s Station where he was booked on charges of carjacking with a bail amount of $100,000. McCloud is scheduled to be arraigned on February 13th at the Antelope Valley Court House.
