Update March 18: A Santa Clarita man was killed in a fatal, head-on collision Tuesday on the Old Road, north of Hillcrest Parkway in Castaic, CHP officials said.

Initial investigation indicates Susan Munoz, 22, of Castaic, was driving a 2010 Mazda southbound on the Old Road, north of Hillcrest Parkway, according to a preliminary California Highway Patrol report.

For an unknown reason, Munoz crossed into the northbound lane and was in a minor sideswipe collision with Jessica Rausch, 28, of Castaic, who was driving a 2010 Toyota, according to CHP officials. Rausch continued northbound, while Munoz continued southbound still within the northbound lane.

Moments later, a second collision occurred, according to CHP officials. This collision was head on in nature between Munoz and a 1991 Nissan.

The passenger of the Nissan, Kimberly Milligan, 30, of Canyon Country and Munoz were extricated and transported by AMR to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital, according to CHP officials. The driver of the Nissan succumbed to his injuries on scene.

Officials with the Coroner’s Office wouldn’t release the deceased person’s name because his next of kin had not yet been notified.

The man was described as a 51-year-old male from Santa Clarita.

CHP Newhall, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, and the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to assist with the scene, according to CHP officials.

It is currently unknown if drugs or alcohol were a contributing factor to the collision, according to CHP officials.
