If I remember right, years ago when all these communities became the City Santa Clarita. One of the goals was limited and smart growth. Ha!!!
That’s correct. We wanted to include the undeveloped areas but the county said no. (Note: This area with the condo approval is not in any city.)
Copper Hill is in Saugus not Valencia has been for over 40 years… but if you want to technical it is ALL Santa Clarita. .. Also I agree why do we keep building if we have no water????

West Creek is in Valencia – not because of its physical location, but because it was developed by The Newhall Land and Farming Co, and “Valencia” is the developer’s trademark. Regardless of whether it’s in Valencia or Saugus, one place it is NOT is Santa Clarita. It is not in the city. It’s in the Santa Clarita Valley, but not in “Santa Clarita.”

West Creek is part of the Saugus Unified School district, as well as Tesoro and Bridgeport. Therefore on a technicality, it is Saugus. Valencia is a trademark of the community.
You might want to check a boundary map, Lisa. Seco Cyn is the cut off for Saugus. The rest of Copper Hill is Valencia from Seco to Newhall Ranch Road.

Who writes for SCVTV? Rude you are. In the early 80’s I was born here and it was a town of a whole different light. A measure was to be signed to stop the outrageous building of homes, but sadly it wasn’t enough. Newhall Land and Farm did SCV dirty!!
We moved here because Lockheed Martin had followed the route of several Vietnam Era vets to move to SCV since it was in the middle of NAS point Mugu and Edwards.
The person who writes for SCVTV (I) got here in 1970. I was the beginning of the sprawl. Technically, I missed the beginning by 3 years; the sprawl started in 1967. But close enough. And I don’t apologize, nor I do begrudge anyone who got here after me. Only thing that drives me nuts is when people who arrived after me complain about the “sprawl”! LOL
As for property taxes going to LAUSD, if your home is in the Santa Clarita Valley, your taxes don’t go to LAUSD. They go to CLWA and a bunch of other acronyms, but not LAUSD.
From the 70’s or even the 80’s, today’s “sprawl” is way bigger in comparison. It’s a fact of life here now, and we will have to deal with it. It’s not like they are going to change their minds and demolish buildings and kick people out! Lol

Have not recovered what the hell are you talking about have you seen the market house are waaaayyyy over priced and if you are selling the house may stay on the market for about 2 weeks. Do you know how much it actually cost to make the homes out here…if you did you will have a heart attack cheap to build a home.
I can tell you, Brett Lahey, that the home I sold in the SCV for $1 million in 2008 is now worth $700,000. That, and the published statistics informs me of the facts.

It is NOT in the city of Santa Clarita. That’s why the story says the COUNTY approved it. If it were in the city, the city would be approving it (or not).

It is in City of Santa Clarita it is part of the 1 vision 1 dream project I live in that area & we ARE in City of Santa Clarita
West Creek Academy – the elementary school for this area, is already at max capacity and anticipates over-crowding next year. There are already new homes going up by the dozen in this area. The planning estimates for this community do not match the actual growth. The people moving in will expect (and pay) to go to these schools. We don’t have the resources, funding, or even rights as they were negotiated away with the home owners associations and builders, to create space to accommodate more students. This is a giant #FAIL

If these type of water decisions are being made, after the Governor declared a sever drought in CA. Then pardon me..I’m keeping my thirsty lawn and I’m not going to take a shorter shower. Not until somebody actually proves to me there is a water shortage, by making decisions NOT to build on a government level. There has to be verifiable water. NOT the kind of water that only shows up on paper.
The development approval for this project was in 2000, before we were in the current drought. The stuff that’s going on now is just technical processing of a project that was approved 15 years ago.

Much of our water comes from the delta. Deliveries of much of this water was limited due to environmentalists saying taking the water endangered the delta and a little fish there.
It’s still a stupid idea. county vs City….already too much traffic, it’s horrible.
Regardless of water, the SCV’s population is projected to double again in the next 25 years.
This city needs to know when to stop building. Wish it was like it was back in 1973, when I moved here.
New houses are way more water efficient than older homes. We should start berating people who live in houses built before 2000 for being water wasters. Kick them out and tear them down.Keep building new water efficient houses.

Starting with you. In honor of your enlightened outlook, I propose that all new renters and homeowners in the SCV pay an extra fee to help us poor ORIGINAL homeowners and renters become more water efficient. After all, we had plenty of water until you showed up.

Since before Ed Davis became the local State Senator, this valley has been the overflow from the SFV. There is a reason so many City of Los Angeles employees live here (and in Simi Valley, aka Land of the LAPD). That is because they could buy bigger homes for less money. The trade-off was the longer commute to work.
There may have been a few other demographic issues at work, but they have been settled (mostly) by the melting-pot effect.
The majority of income generated for SVC residents still comes from the City to the south.
The majority of the residents of the SCV don’t worry about little things like over-building. The majority of the residents of the City of Santa Clarita don’t even think about what the City government does. They think even less about what Mike Antonovich, The Prince of the Fifth District of Los Angeles County (and your Mayor of LA County) does when the big money developers come calling.
And so you (and we) are stuck with this, and so much more.
You CAN do something about it. But you can’t do much about the approvals that are already in the machine. Drought or no drought, the water companies have little choice but to serve new developments because the approvals are historically embedded in City and County law/agreements.
If you care, if it’s important to you, it is time to raise hell with the City and County representatives that are determining your future safety, health, and lively-hood.
Oh, by the way, remember that real estate brokers and agents make their money off of your displeasure with the way things are going. Unless, of course you are planning on selling in the next year or so.

Guess I’d better fine tune my sarcasmometer. I have it set at both RARE and CHUNKY based on the usual posts. Good thing I’ve got a 30″ prybar next to the combompulator for when a little open-mindedness on my part is necessary.
