I drove through Calabasas last weekend and noticed that their medians are being watered by recycled water. Is this something Santa Clarita is looking into? Is the infrastructure there for something like that?
The trees in the median need to be watered. Recycled water should be used for this purpose.
The trees are being watered. SCV sent a newsletter a few weeks ago explaining everything.
I know, but everything else is dead in the medians, hopefully they don’t also kill off our beautiful mature trees.
Unfortunately private residents are only able to water trees by hand held bucket according to ordinance 42. Seems silly especially if you have s large property with many large mature trees.
…but the sprinklers at Meadows park were on at 9:39 am Saturday morning…
I noticed that the grass outside of city hall is dead which means they are adhering to the new policy BUT the courthouse/sheriff lawn just across the street is lush and green!!! They have not cut back on watering!
Beth when I was working for the parks system, the plans are there to convert Central Park to reclaimed. But the costs are insane.. The system needs to be completely changed over. And the high salt content really actually hurts the landscape over time and raises the alkali in the soil to render eventually sterile
There should be no water usage period! If we can’t water lawns then city should do desert landscaping. Our leaders should be voted out. The letter they sent was horrible justifying the water usage. Go with cactus! Do what Arizona and New Mexico do, we are in a drought people. There is no excuse!

Aren’t they taking out the paved median’s and putting in trees that need watering. ..mind boggling. ..that is what I saw :(
I am happy about the cuts the city and many residents have made but when it comes to schools, shopping centers and large complexes it’s been a straight slap in the face. So much run off from many of these places we can collect with buckets in the gutter. It’s the idea of these places that no enforcement will be in the middle of the night and who will catch them.
The medians down San Fernando have JUST BEEN PLANTED! What were they thinking? Ugly medians are ok with me if we can just keep some green spaces in our parks.
Those medians were a bad idea , firetrucks use that road so much , especially during rush hour on the freeways , before those were put in they had no problems getting thru but last week i saw that they were upset because they had no outlet to get thru the traffic , they were very frustrated ,
I couldn’t agree more. At the very least this could have waited but honestly it could have been completely eliminated.
Yesterday morning the grass along the sidewalk alongside the eastbound Newhall Ranch road going up to Golden Valley near the new home construction was being watered with sprinklers flooding the adjacent sidewalks!

Finally!! Way to finally figure it out santa clarita. Too busy fining the citizens but flooding the medians.
And these were paved and planted during the drought…never mind the wasted furl driving 1/2 mile to make a turn…

El Nino should fix everything in a few months. Everyone is panicking. One of SCV’s biggest attractions is their clean, cut, and landscaped streets. Nothing says “we care about things” more than the entrance to a neighborhood. At the very least, keep watering the foliage. Grass should stay where it’s at, even if it’s not watered. It will all come back after December.
I have been forced to water my yard by hand since I can only 2 days a week and got a notice I was watering on wrong days, however I water more by hand than my sprinklers did! Lol

Really,,,I feel they can still water without the extreme “woo is me” we are abiding by the water rules and we are not killing our yards, just a little brown. Why does everyone have to jump on the “waaaaaaa” band wagon, just conserve and deal with it!
Reclaimed water has already been in effect in Lancaster for parks and such. The Lancaster waste water facility discharges tons and tons of it’s reclaimed water to natural water sources ie Apollo park. SCV also has a large waste water facility off the old road. Go and check it out. I believe these facilities have annual field trips. Lancaster had theirs a few months ago. They give you a lot of information on how the reclaimed water is processed.
I just don’t get , we’re in a horrible time right now , mandatory water rationing , it’s great , but why is there sooooo many hundreds of homes and new buildings going up , and i heard of a new mini mall , . but WHERE is all that water going to come from , we’re all doing our part to the best of our ability , but with all the building going on , i don’t see a change coming for the better , the building needs to stop , too much light and soon we see no stars , just how i feel , and it makes me sad ,
What about planting native California plants? Plants and scrubs that were here before we even got here? They are beautiful too. They’ve been through this drought before and survived.

Apparently Walmart and Toys R Us didn’t get the memo. We went into the store yesterday about 1, can back to our truck approximately an hour later and they were still watering the planters in the parking lot.
Time to go to Desertscapes, we (former Californians) in Arizona use. Multi-colored gravel and desert or native plants, it’s actually very nice. Cities like Las Vegas and Phoenix are using it too and the grass is mainly just in the parks. Who wants to mow it anyway?
I was driving home @ 2 am last week and most of the medians on via princesses, whites canyon and others are being watered with plenty of over spray and streams of water running down the street. I am doing my part by stopping watering my lawn completely and the city can not do the same? It irritates me to know I’m doing my part, but that is being cancelled out by the city.
Nobody said you have to be a martyr and let your lawn die! We are saving water inside so we can water plants and lawn just a little. Enough to keep it alive until fall and hopefully rain. Short showers,rinsing dishes in a bowl, paper plates, and giving dirty water to plants, using car wash coupons,etc. This too will pass. Just call the city and tell where you see waste.
You are correct, but I can replace my lawn in-expensively in the fall. No point in watering the few days that they allow, when my lawn will still die. I still water plants and tree’s with dirty water, all I was saying is there is waste all over the city and they can’t do their part. They pay a landscape company with my tax $’s and they can pay that same landscape company to adjust the waste, and to top it off they tell me if i am over watering they are going to fine me?

PLEASE DEEP WATER YOUR TREES AND ESPECIALLY IN THOSE IN YOUR PARKWAY THAT THE CITY PLANTED! I see many that are looking sick. Trees are an important part of our environment and air quality in this city.
Maybe we should stop allowing water to be bottled here in Cali.

Yes, I saw the grass is now brown on Stevenson Ranch Pk way, but also saw that new plants were being planted.
Hundreds of dollars were added to our property tax bill to pay for grass,plants,trees,and sprinklers in the medians.Can we get a refund?
What about the shrubs and trees that just got planted along the medians going towards canyon country? On Soledad?
Are those drought tolerant trees and plants?
