One of our top priorities at the City of Santa Clarita is a strong local economy, including attracting more jobs, working to assure a healthy business climate for businesses to prosper, and providing the necessary infrastructure for success. We appreciate our many partnerships working with the Santa Clarita Valley Economic Development Corp., the SCV Chamber of Commerce and Valley Industry Association.
Our unemployment rate in June 2016 was 4.7 percent, down from 6.3 percent in June 2015. The current unemployment rate is the lowest for the month of June since the recession ended. The unemployment rate was 11.3 in June 2010.
There were 83,742 jobs in Santa Clarita as of the fourth quarter of 2015. Our local businesses continue to add jobs, and we have seen more than 10,000 new jobs added locally since the end of the recession in 2009. There are 6,700 businesses in Santa Clarita as of the fourth quarter of 2015.
The city also partners with College of the Canyons to provide customized recruitments, job training and job seeking workshops at America’s Job Center of California, which is located at the College of the Canyons University Center. The Job Center is a network of workforce experts who leverage funding and resources across the Los Angeles region to provide job seekers and businesses with high-value employment and training services – all at no charge.
