Vasquez Canyon Road is slated to reopen on November 23 at 9 a.m., according to Los Angeles County officials.
There will be a ribbon cutting to celebrate the reopening.
“Public Works worked really hard to get (Vasquez) open before the end of the year,” Edel Vizcarra, planning deputy for Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich, said in a previous interview.
Over the past 10 months, roadwork had been stalled because the hillside that contributed to the road’s demise is privately owned. The property owner is deceased, and the county’s attempts to reach next of kin, who live in San Diego and San Francisco, have been unsuccessful, said Vizcarra.
Back in September, supervisors adopted a resolution to condemn the privately owned hillside next to the 600-foot segment of Vasquez Canyon Road that buckled in a slow landslide in November 2015.
Road construction was estimated to cost about $4 million, paid for by funds from the Federal Highway Administration’s Emergency Relief Program.

Not one accident on Sierra Hwy and Vasquez Cyn Rd since it has been closed. So many people hurt and killed at this intersection.
