College of the Canyons will host its 2nd Annual Volunteers in Action Fair on Wednesday, April 26, which will showcase a variety of Santa Clarita Valley non-profit organizations and highlight their outstanding mission to serve the community.
The Volunteers in Action Fair is especially designed to furnish these groups with a venue in which to share their overall goals with the campus community, as well as to encourage students to pursue community service as a means to heighten their involvement in civic engagement.
“This event assists not only local non-profits in recruiting volunteers, but it also gives students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience working to better our community,” said Patty Robinson, faculty director of civic engagement and community engagement initiatives at the college. “Students can apply concepts and theories they are learning in the classroom to real-life situations and challenges.”
Although the event is intended for service-learning students, all students, faculty, staff and community members will have the chance to learn more about community-based learning, non-profit goals, and volunteer opportunities.
The event is hosted by the Office of Service-Learning and the Associated Student Government (ASG). ASG is the representative voice of the COC student body, which aims to promote transformative co-curricular experiences for students.
The fair will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Student Center Cafeteria, located on the college’s Valencia campus.
ASG will provide a free lunch to attendees that interact with various vendor organizations.
Admission is free and open to the public.
