Detective Bill Velek of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station shared Wednesday on how the Juvenile Intervention Team can help parents identify drug use in their homes and, more importantly, how to address it.
“It’s not just Santa Clarita that has this problem, it’s a nationwide problem and it’s going to continue to be,” Velek said.
“When they call us, we don’t show up in a patrol car — I show up in a plain car, I dress in plain clothes because a lot of families don’t want to see cops at their house. They don’t want to see that. They are embarrassed. So when they call us for help we don’t show up like that, we just show up like a friend, we go in their house and we talk privately, and it’s just between us and them and we offer them help.”
