WEDS June 28, Noon – The latest update from the L.A. County Fire Department puts the Placerita Fire at 760 acres, and it’s 95 percent contained.
MON Noon – Officials report the Placerita Fire is now 57 percent contained, still at 870 acres. “We’ve got a handle on it,” said Chris Reade, a member of the incident management team. “We’re just making sure that what’s out is out.”
MON 8:49AM – Placerita Canyon Road is still closed from Sand Canyon Road to Running Horse Road. Sheriff’s deputies say use an alternate route.

Mandatory evacuations are still in effect for homes in the area of Running Horse and Tenderfoot Trail. Placerita Canyon Road, east of the 14 freeway is temporarily closed. Residents will be allowed back into the area at 10 P.M. Sunday night.
SUN 8:20PM – “It was a great effort from Unified Command and outside resources,” Los Angeles County Deputy Fire Chief Vince Pena said in a statement Sunday night. “We were able to address the fast-moving structure threat, and flames that were moving from the county, to state, to federal land. We are really happy with the coordinated effort, and were able to knock down something which could have been a three-day fire, in about three hours.”
Sunday’s fire “is a harsh reminder of the danger of wildfires in our City,” Santa Clarita Mayor Cameron Smyth said Sunday night. “I want to send a heartfelt thank you to the men and women of the LA County Fire Department, Angeles National Forest, LA County Sheriff’s Department, California Highway Patrol and everyone else who assisted in today’s firefight. Our fire crews braved the temperatures which peaked at 106 degrees today to stop the flames from reaching homes.  Let the Placerita Fire be a warning to all of us to use caution during this fire season, especially with the July 4th holiday just around the corner.”

The fire had spread to 100 acres by 1:40 p.m. and 300 acres by 1:50 p.m.

Homes are threatened in the Mountain Pass Road area on the northwest and Running Road Road on the southeast. The Disney Golden Oak Ranch is also threatened.
