Santa Clarita city officials are welcoming public input at a meeting about a possible library location in Saugus.

The meeting, which is being hosted by the Citizen’s Public Library Advisory Committee and Saugus Action Committee, will start Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the Old Town Newhall Library Community Room.

logo-citylibraryThe plan to locate a library in Saugus is one that’s been discussed for a while, with city officials budgeting community outreach in Santa Clarita’s 2014-15 spending plan, said city spokeswoman Gail Morgan, in a previous interview.

The community outreach will help the city determine whether residents “even want a library in Saugus, what the best place would be (for) that,” Morgan said in January. “Each community that we’ve worked with has come up with different things that they want.”

The city has yet to identify a location for the site, Morgan said. The preliminary phases of the process, which will begin Tuesday, identifying community need.

A library consulting firm is expected to give a presentation first, followed by a discussion about a strategic plan for outreach on the library, which is expected to be led by Library Systems & Services, or LSSI.

LSSI is the company Santa Clarita contracts with to run its three existing library locations in Newhall, Canyon Country and Valencia.

How about we quit building libraries for millions of $ and invest in a new Senior Center! This city should be ashamed of what it calls its Senior Center!

    • I agree. The increasing geriatric numbers call for more state-of-the-art Senior facilities to accommodate that growing demographic. Other cities are boarding up or repurposing under-utilized libraries. Our City Council is not very forward thinking.

  2. On the Bouquet Canyon median, that’s where this town seems to need the attention.
But then I suppose we’d need more trees there too.

  3. A library?! Wtf? Yeah, books are great but it’s only a matter of time that they are obsolete. I think the one in Newhall is enough library for the SCV.

I vote NO library! Take care of our seniors!!

  6. Bryan Dover says:

Well, not any where near Central Park. The City seems to think that everything can be there at the same time.

  7. No library… The seniors need a better place than the “senior center” in Newhall. When my elderly mother moved here from Santa Monica almost a year ago, I was excited that she’d have a place to go that was safe to make new friends and socialize. We toured the “center” and it’s a joke! Dirty, dingy, and it smells of urine. I wouldn’t take my dog there! We have enough libraries. So many in fact, that the Newhall one hardly has any books! Why is this city not doing enough for our seniors?

  8. Completely agree that we do NOT need another library.

  10. I vote no library. Valencia isn’t that far away.

  11. How about on Newhall Ranch Road near the fire station?

  13. A Saugus Community Center maybe ~ for Girl / boy Scout meetings~local events etc. I agree ~ the Senior center is a much more important use of our city money. ( I live in Saugus )

  15. Saugus does not need a library. However, the Valencia library is too small and difficult to access. Better parking And a book drop box on the right side if the street would be nice. Senior center, Paseos like other parts if town have and some stop signs in busy neighborhoods near schools would be $$ better spent

  16. Jim Oge Jr says:

We have enough of them stop already!!!!!!
