Donate your pajamas, slippers, robes, and toiletries to the Domestic Violence Center of Santa Clarita to help victims of domestic abuse in our community.

Donors wanting to contribute to the Pajama Kit Drive can bring unused pajamas, slippers, robes, feminine hygiene products, and toiletries (toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, and body wash) to the DVC Outreach center in Newhall. All of the items donated will be given to women and children affected by domestic violence, who come into the Domestic Violence Center in need of shelter.

“It’s just a wonderful thing,” said Linda Davies, executive director of the Domestic Violence Center. “Women come into our shelter and feel welcomed with a fresh set of clothes. They know that the community comes together and makes these kits themselves, it’s amazing. We’ve had girl scouts, church groups, and businesses put kits together.”

The Domestic Violence Center is in need of pajamas in particular because victims come into the Center wearing only the clothes on their backs. Having clean clothes to sleep in when they arrive at the shelter is crucial for their comfort and mental health.

“Many women who come into the shelter need to stay a few days while their abuser is out looking for them. So, it’s really important that they feel safe and welcomed,” stated Davies.

According to the Domestic Violence Center, one in three women have been in an abusive relationship sometime in their lifetime, and, even more distressing, two-thirds of the residents in battered women shelters are children. The Domestic Violence Center of Santa Clarita and many domestic abuse centers like it provide the community with crisis intervention, counseling, awareness, advocacy, and activities to support the improved health, living environment, and economic opportunities for victims.

The Domestic Violence Center is hoping to receive around twenty-five pajama kits over the next few months, and have so far received six, according to Davies. If you have new pajamas or toiletries you would like to donate, it would be immensely appreciated by the Domestic Violence Center and the victims alike. “Between our Shelter and Outreach Center, we serve about 1,300 people a year,” said Davies. “This Pajama Kit Drive is meant to help people affected by domestic violence. And for those donating, it can be used as a tax break, since we are a charity organization. Sometimes, parents have their children put together these pajama kits to make them aware of domestic violence and the value of helping others.”
