In a recent study conducted by the Hilton Farnkopf & Hobson, the City of Santa Clarita, in partnership with Waste Management, ranked as having the lowest commercial collection rate and the 27th lowest for residential rate in Los Angeles County.
The solid waste rate and services survey was used to compare monthly waste collection rates of incorporated cities in Los Angeles County.
“Santa Clarita is unique compared to most cities because we include free recycling, free bulky item pickup, and e-waste collection in our management services,” states Mayor Frank Ferry. “The City continues to have one of the lowest rates with these particular attributes and community members benefit from it because they receive those services with no additional charge to the ratepayers.”
The survey rates did not include additional services offered as part of the monthly collections rate such as bulky item collections, sharps disposal, electronic waste collection, manure collection, and clothing recycling.
Additionally, the rates do not include charges for non-solid-waste services like the Super Saver rate, which allows residents to opt for a smaller waste cart in exchange for a 20 percent reduction in their monthly bill. Based on the data provided, if these additional services were included Santa Clarita would have an even lower residential ranking in Los Angeles County.
