[Gov. Brown] – In an action announced Friday, Gov. Jerry Brown Jr. signed legislation to provide legal services to the unaccompanied minors arriving in California from Central America.
“Helping these young people navigate our legal system is the decent thing to do and it’s consistent with the progressive spirit of California,” said Brown when the legislation was introduced last month with the support of Attorney General Kamala D. Harris, Senate President pro Tem Darrell Steinberg, Assembly Speaker Toni Atkins and members of the Latino Legislative Caucus.
SB 873 by the Committee on Budget and Fiscal Review eliminates any ambiguity regarding the jurisdiction of the state court to make findings necessary to enable the federal government to grant these minors special immigrant juvenile status. This federal status provides for an expedited naturalization process. The legislation also reinforces the court’s authority to provide interpreters to unaccompanied, undocumented minors. Additionally, the Budget Act of 2014 signed today appropriates $3 million to qualified nonprofits to provide legal services for unaccompanied minors.
During California’s Trade and Investment Mission to Mexico in July, the Governor met with Archbishop of Los Angeles José H. Gomez and religious and diplomatic leaders from Mexico and Central America for a wide-ranging discussion on immigration reform and pledged to help with the influx of unaccompanied children migrating to the United States.

Seriously!?! How much more financial strain can you put on us Californian’s Governor Brown!?! We cannot save the world… I feel for all small children whose parents could care less what happens to their children when they blindly send them off on a bus not knowing what will happen to them (rape, disease, etc.). But if these STUPID actions continue to be signed off on by our clueless government, illegal aliens will continue coming to our Country ILLEGALLY!!! Why don’t you foot the bill if you feel so strongly about it & stop trying to bankrupt our state!!!
hey are they ask you to help ? I don’t trhink so so back off , and you arer latina ,,, no manches ayuda a tu projimoi nio seas mamona
Your comment just shows your ignorance… You back off! I’m not “Latina” btw… I am married to a man who’s father came to America when he was 16 years old and he did it the legal way.., worked his butt off and paid taxes. No free ride for him!! Maybe you should spend a little less time on FB & a little more time getting your facts straight señora!
And furthermore… It is well known that Americas’ immigration “laws” are broken compared to other countries around the world… Which is why we continue to see the largest influx of “ILLEGAL” immigrants. And, no… THEY don’t ASK me to help, THEY just continue to TAKE! When “ILLEGALS” are able to go to college for free while LEGAL residents must take out loans to pay for inflated tuition so ILLEGALS can attend college-Yes! I have a BIG problem with that! And I’m not even going to start with illegals & our healthcare system!!

Thank you Gov. Brown for reinforcing compassion in policy as it relates to Refugee Children. I look forward to voting for you
when you run for U.S. Senate.
Douche!

May I ask all of you a question…How could a human being be “illegal” or an “alien”?” Dividing the human race and dictating where others are allowed to have rights or the right to live based on the place they were born (which they have no say in last time I checked) is quite frightening in my eyes. When will we all be able to try to put on the shoes of those who we discriminate, or hold prejudice views, against to understand there is no difference between an “illegal alien” and ourselves? I understand ignorance can be bliss, but we will never progress until we face issues like human rights, in the 21st century…
Michael… I’m going to give you a pass because you are young and obviously a free spirit. Which is great for you! Bur in the real world Countries thrive only when it’s people and the people who LEGALLY immigrate pay their fair share. The race card has been WAY over used and I’m personally tired of it! This has nothing to do with race and everything to do with the law! They are breaking the law and our government continues to allow it. Racism is everywhere… Woman, men, African American, Caucasian, Asian, Latino, the old, the young… It’s everywhere and unfortunately isn’t going away anytime soon. Again.., this is not about race… It’s about the law… Thus the name “ILLEGAL ALIEN”!
Well, of course this isn’t about race. It is about geographics. I understand you may perceive me as being less than you because I am young, but what is the good of suppressing the free spirit? Like you said, in “the real world”…What is the real world? If anything, we are everything but real with one another when we suppress our true ideas because of what the rest of the world says we should believe or has to be. Clearly, you are more concerned with the economics of the United States than the progressive steps humanity must take and countries must sacrifice, to overcome such topics like human rights to live where they please. If we were to implement a program in which people didn’t have to hide from the US government while trying to pursue a better life for their self and their family, we would not have to worry about tax evasion. Once again, our own ideas should not be altered or led by what others think because this is giving up your own REAL self. I wholeheartedly believe that we would both be “illegal aliens” if we were put in the shoes of those willing to risk deportation in hopes for a better life in the US.
Good luck in your quest for a non-economic, all about “human rights for all” country Michael.
Maybe you need to think of it this way… How about you allow just 10 of these immigrants to live with you & you are now responsible for their entire welfare until they get their feet on the ground. Do you think you could still pay your rent, afford food for yourself, healthcare? Unfortunately money makes the world go round Michael… And if US citizens continue to pay for all these people flooding into the US for a better life…. Eventually a better life in the US will no longer exist. The US has enough of it’s own “legal” free loaders to pay for…
Oh… & have you ever heard of ISIL? Let’s open all boarders and let anyone live anywhere they want! Let’s see how long it takes for what’s going on in the Middle East to come into your back yard…. Oh wait… It’s already happening!
Michael, it isn’t about “being better then you because you’re young”, its more about seeing things in a grown-up, experienced kind of way. Unless you have the experience, and can see the change in this country, you will never understand about the money being wasted, being lost. I don’t care who immigrates to this country, as long as they follow the law, and pay taxes just like I have to. That is not trampling on human rights, its wanting equality in all people who live here!
Hey Brown are you NUTS????
yeash lets help not only childrens , all you can
