All-American wide receiver Trent Irwin from Hart High School has committed to Stanford, according to a report on Scout.com.
“Trent just called Coach Shaw, he’s going to Stanford,” Craig Irwin, Trent’s father told Greg Biggins from Scout.com. “It was a really tough decision but it came down to a few things. When we looked at life after football, you can’t really turn down Stanford. We took multiple visits there and it’s just an incredible place and if football is taken away, Trent knows he’ll still be on the right path.”
Irwin, who had narrowed his devision down to the Cardinal and Arizona State, reportedly made his decision on Sunday but chose to sleep on it a couple days to be sure.
“He had a good idea during the week of the Army All-American game but didn’t want to be a distraction or have to answer a bunch of questions while he was out there,” Craig Irwin said. “He came home and thought about it some more and he just knew it was Stanford for him, he had a real peace about it.”
Irwin became the California state record holder this past season in career receptions (285) and yardage (5,268).
During his senior season, Irwin caught 106 passes for 1,974 yards and 22 touchdowns.
