The city of Santa Clarita will host a public meeting to discuss the Sand Canyon Trail Design at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 in the multipurpose room at Sulphur Springs Community School located at 16628 Lost Canyon Road.
The first two phases of the six-phase project constructed approximately one mile of multi-use trail along the west side of Sand Canyon Road. The City was able to acquire easements from private property owners along the projected trail route in order to finish these phases.
At the informational meeting, the City will discuss the plan for the entirety of the trail, and the next phase for the portion of land just north of the completed section, from Road Runner Road to Lost Canyon Road. The meeting will also outline constraints and obstacles for the project with an opportunity for discussion.
“The Sand Canyon Trail’s growth will be a welcome connection for hikers, bikers and horse riders,” said Mayor Marsha McLean. “The continuous trail will be a safe, convenient passage for residents from Lost Canyon Road to Placerita Canyon Road.”

We need it to come up to Shadow Pines from Lost Cyn. Accessible for runners and bikes. Great for the youth in the area.
Even more importantly, there needs to be a safe way for pedestrians to get from Roadrunner to Lost Canyon without walking on the tiny curb or going to the top of the bank and duck walking under the railroad bridge. That portion of Sand Canyon has never been safe for pedestrians, is impassable for wheelchair users and stroller pushers, and is located less than a half mile from two elementary schools. If it was safe to walk that stretch perhaps more kids could walk or bike to school rather than being driven.
