On Sunday morning, Oct. 18, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department became aware of an incident that occurred earlier in the morning involving off-duty deputies from the Department’s Palmdale Station.
The deputies were camping in a remote area of Kern County when one deputy unintentionally discharged his non-department issued off-duty weapon, striking another deputy in the leg.
The injured deputy was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
Detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, assigned to the Internal Affairs Bureau and Homicide Bureau, were notified and responded to conduct a Departmental investigation.
The investigation into the complete circumstances of this incident is being handled by the Kern County Sheriff’s Department, as it is in their jurisdiction.
