1831 - Local entrepreneurs Sanford and Cyrus Lyon (as in Lyons Avenue) born in Machias, Maine [story]

Samuel Dixon Family Health Center, Inc. is honored to receive a $25,000 sponsorship check from County of Los Angeles Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich for his support of our 2015 Rubber Ducky Festival which raised over $100,000 to go towards patient care for the low income and uninsured in the Santa Clarita Valley.

The presentation took place at the Val Verde Health Center, and included Field Representative Rosalind Wayman representing Supervisor Antonovich.

Also in attendance were Gloria Mercado-Fortine, SDFHC Board Chairperson; Ed Bolden, SDFHC Board Vice Chairman, Fundraising; and Alan Ferdman, Rubber Ducky Festival Committee Chairperson. Present from the organization were, Silvia Sanchez, Canyon Country Health Center Supervisor; Nora Rodriguez, Val Verde Health Center Supervisor; April Chavez, Newhall Health Center Supervisor; Dr. Samuel Dixon, Provider; Katie Simers, Executive Assistant & PR Coordinator; Tom Christensen, Chief Financial Officer; Dr. Taura Olfus, Chief Medical Officer; Andrew Kean, Chief Information Officer; and Philip Solomon, Chief Executive Officer.

Our 13th Annual Rubber Ducky Festival took place on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2015 at Bridgeport Park in Valencia. Every year, proceeds from this event go toward patient care services at SDFHC, which offers affordable, quality, primary health care for residents of the Santa Clarita Valley.

SDFHC makes a special effort to serve the under and uninsured. The 2015 event, with contributions from generous sponsors, raised enough funds to cover over 2100 patient visits for those who may not otherwise be able to get the care they need, exceeding last year’s event which covered 400 patient visits.

SDFHC extends a special thank you to our sponsors of our 2015 event: The Henry Mayo Newhall Foundation, Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich, Boston Scientific, Providence Holy Cross Medical Center, Santa Clarita Valley Rotary Club, Learn 4 Life and Mission View Public Charter School, Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, Grace Baptist Church, Burrtec Industries, and Kiwanis Club of Glendale.

Media partners and sponsors for the event included: KHTS AM 1220, Santa Clarita Gazette, SCVTV, The Santa Clarita Valley Signal, N2 Publishing, Our Valley Santa Clarita, elite Magazine and The Magazine of Santa Clarita.

For information about our 2016 event scheduled for October 1, 2016, becoming a sponsor, or volunteering, please contact Katie Simers, Executive Assistant & Public Relations Coordinator at Katie@sdfhc.org or (661) 257-2339, ext. 302.
