Whether you consider the number of students enrolled each semester (20,000 and growing), chart the annual economic impact of its more than 200,000 alumni ($229.5 million) in our community, or count the number of employees at area companies who received customized training last year (5,032), the community’s only public institution for higher education creates significant benefits for Santa Clarita.
Known as an innovative and responsive partner, COC built its reputation over the past 46 years by anticipating and then doing something to meet the needs of the community. Chief among its successes are expanding access to higher education by creating new academic programs and building top-notch facilities that accommodate growing student enrollment. At the same time, business leaders rely on COC to deliver cutting-edge training opportunities that their firms to stay competitive in fast-changing industries.
Today, the college offers 83 majors and 67 certificate options on two campuses, and is ranked among the top five community colleges in the state for its completion rate. And, through its Economic Development Division, College of the Canyons generates nearly $4 million annually to fund customized training for more than 800 individual companies.
But what’s next for our community’s college? With enrollment poised to surpass 30,000 students, and advancing technology bringing rapid changes to Santa Clarita’s key industry clusters, our college is ready to lead the way forward in providing the education and training needed to fuel a vibrant local economy and helps our students complete on time.
