Senate Bill 634, a measure to create a new water district in the Santa Clarita Valley, has unanimously cleared the Assembly Committee on Local Government, according to Senator Scott Wilk, R-Antelope Valley, who introduced the bill.

This measure is the result of negotiations between the Castaic Lake Water Agency and Newhall County Water District to consolidate, creating a single Santa Clarita Valley Water District. It also includes Los Angeles Local Agency Formation Commission in the formation of the new agency.

“We are now one step closer to creating a first-class regional water agency that will reflect the values of transparency and accountability, as well as provide improved reliability and water quality for the residents of the SCV,” Wilk said.

“When completed we hope to have a 21st Century modern government agency that will serve as a model for water agencies throughout the state and nation.”

“SB 634 creates a collaborative effort between residents, representatives of the agencies and LAFCo, ensuring once again, transparency and accountability,” concluded Wilk.

The measure now goes to the Assembly Committee on Water, Parks and Wildlife for approval.
