Trey Killian’s four-game win streak came to an end as the Lancaster JetHawks fell to the San Jose Giants, 10-3, in the series opener on Monday night at Municipal Stadium.
Killian (10-8) allowed a career-high four home runs, all solo shots, and the Giants (55-66, 25-26) pulled away late to turn the game into a rout.
Jonah Arenado his a solo home run in the first inning, and Gio Brusa added a solo blast in the second inning to give the Giants a 2-0 lead.
Wes Rogers evened the score in the third inning with a two-run single after being reinstated from the disabled list before the game.
The game remained tied into the fifth inning before John Polonius homered to push the Giants ahead again.
Heath Slatton (3-3) relieved Giants starter Heath Slatton in the sixth inning and was greeted with a Dillon Thomas home run, his first as a JetHawk, to even the score, 3-3. But Killian gave up his fourth home run of the game in the bottom of the sixth, a Bryan Reynolds shot, to put the Giants ahead for good.
San Jose added four more runs in the seventh and another pair in the eighth.
Killian allowed seven runs on eight hits over 6.1 innings. Max Schuh finished the game out of the bullpen and allowed three runs on four hits 1.2 innings of relief.
Garrett Hampson led the JetHawks (66-55, 28-23) with a 3-for-5 night and added a run and stolen base. Sam Hilliard went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and a steal.
The series continues on Tuesday from Municipal Stadium. Jesus Tinoco (8-4) will start against left-hander Garrett Williams (2-0). First pitch is 7 p.m.
