In their next regular meeting Tuesday, Santa Clarita Mayor Marsha McLean and members of the City Council will nominate local citizens to fill open positions on four city commissions and a county health board.
At its regular meeting Nov. 27, the Council declared vacancies and directed the City Clerk to post and publish the Notice of Vacancy for three regular positions on each of the Planning Commission; Parks, Recreation and Community Services Commission; Arts Commission; and Open Space Preservation District Financial Accountability and Audit Panel; and one position for the city’s appointment to the Los Angeles County Vector Control Board.
1. Mayor Marsha McLean, Councilmember Bill Miranda, and Councilmember Laurene Weste will nominate and the Council will vote whether to approve appointments to the Planning Commission; Parks, Recreation and Community Services Commission; Arts Commission; and Open Space Preservation District Financial Accountability and Audit Panel.
2. Councilmembers will also nominate and approve the city’s appointment of a representative on the Los Angeles County Vector Control Board.
The deadline for receipt of applications was Dec. 20, at which time the City Clerk submitted copies of the applications received to the City Council.

After appointment to said bodies, regular terms for the appointees will expire Dec. 31, 2022, or when a replacement is appointed. It is anticipated each newly appointed member will be seated at the first meeting of their respective body.
The city’s appointment to the Los Angeles County Vector Control Board may be nominated by any member of the City Council for the four-year term to begin Jan. 7, 2019.
Once appointed, the representative cannot be removed at-will. The representative will serve until the expiration of his/her term, unless he/she resigns, vacates the office due to absences, or is no longer a voter and resident within the city of Santa Clarita.
