A young NASCAR driver recently moved to Santa Clarita to continue pursuing her dream of racing in the NASCAR premier Sprint Cup Series.
Ariel Biggs, a 21-year-old professional race driver, has brought her pursuit of the series from the Pacific Northwest to Southern California late 2015 to take on two of the West Coast’s most challenging racing series on dirt and asphalt.
Her team plans to kick off their dirt series tour by running the historic 75th Turkey Night Grand Prix at Perris Speedway on Thanksgiving Day.
Coming off the 2015 season, where she earning the first female feature win in the 69 year history of the Washington Midget Racing Association as well as her K&N West license, Biggs looks forward to what 2016 has to bring.
With plans to run the Lucas Oil Modified series, which runs in four states on eight tracks, and the Western States Midget Car Series, which features some of the highest horsepower to weight ratio cars in the world, Biggs expects the 2016 season to be extremely rewarding.
“Kicking-off our 2016 Southern California series with the 75th Turkey Night Grand Prix will set the stage for next season and put our name in with the biggest names in West Coast dirt open-wheel racing,” said Biggs.
Turkey Night is one of the oldest running midget car races in the world, starting 33 cars on the massive half-mile track in Perris, California. The 1,100 pound cars will reach speeds of over 130 miles per hour.
The race brings together some of the best race car drivers in the country. Past participants include Parnelli Jones, Tony Stewart and Kyle Larson.
“If you want to be the best you have to compete with the best,” said Biggs, “and that’s exactly what we want to accomplish with Turkey Night.”

Probably better than Danica
Saugus Speedway may be gone, but Santa Clarita has a rich heritage in racing from Greg Pursley to Rich Delong III to Connor Cantrell to Rod Johnson and R.J. Johnson and that’s just a few of the names.
R.J. Johnson was a good friend of mine in High School. We used to hang out and play Nascar on PS2 constantly. That kid lived and breathed racing. Glad to see him and his dad getting some recognition.
