Five people are in custody in northern California on suspicion of a string of robberies – including the Sept. 3 robbery of the Comfort Suites hotel at 25380 The Old Road in Stevenson Ranch.

At the time, Santa Clarita Valley sheriff’s deputies said they were looking for two men – one white, one black – and a 10- to 12-year-old boy.

The trio held a hotel clerk at gunpoint and made off with $350 to $400 in cash and a jar of candy.

A statement from the SCV Sheriff’s Station on Thursday added the information that the Comfort Suites robbers were wearing masks. The nature of the evidence that led deputies to a conclusion about their race at the time of the robbery was not released.

In Thursday’s statement, SCV Sheriff’s Lt. Steve Low said two adults, Jamaul Baker, 26, and Justina Baker, 22, both black, along with three black male juveniles, are in custody in Placer County, which is between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe. They are being held in lieu of $500,000 bail.

Low said SCV sheriff’s detectives “were able to link these suspects to a series of robberies committed throughout the state.”

Low said SCV detectives “interviewed the suspects and juveniles at Placer County Jail” on Wednesday. “During the interview, the suspects admitted to the robbery in Stevenson Ranch. Evidence was also obtained that placed the suspects at the crime scene when the robbery occurred.”
