L’Etape du California will return next year to the Amgen Tour of California, AEG, presenter of the race announced. The popular amateur ride, which will be produced in partnership with Pacific Sports, a leading sports and event management company, will take place on Sunday, April 6, 2014, with a single ride in Thousand Oaks.

The 2014 edition of L’Etape du California will provide amateur cyclists an opportunity to ride the official Stage 8 course of the 2014 Amgen Tour of California with hundreds of other fans. The approximately 80-mile ride will feature a challenging, hilly course over iconic climbs of the Santa Monica Mountains.  In years past, numerous professional riders and team staff have used L’Etape du California to preview the course a month before the Tour in May. The riders completing the climbs in the lowest cumulative time will be crowned King and Queen of the Mountain.

“Each year, the enthusiasm and support for L’Etape du California continues to grow,” said Kristin Bachochin, executive director of the Amgen Tour of California and senior vice president of AEG Sports. “Cycling fans in California and throughout the country have a tremendous passion for the sport. The Amgen Tour of California is proud to provide them with the opportunity to ride like the pros. We invite everyone to come out and catch a sneak peek at the final stage of the 2014 course.”

The ride is open to all cycling enthusiasts looking for a challenging ride and will include mechanical support provided by SRAM Neutral Race Support team and nutritional stops throughout the course.

“We are pleased to once again offer amateur cyclists the rare opportunity to experience the same ride the professionals will experience as they cross the finish line at the next Amgen Tour of California,” said Jack Caress, President and CEO of Pacific Sports, LLC. “A ride like this is a once in a lifetime opportunity any amateur cyclists will want to experience.”

The field for the 2014 L’Etape du California will be limited to 1,500 riders. For more information and to register for the ride, visit letapeducalifornia.com.

The 2014 Amgen Tour of California will take place May 11–18, 2014. For additional information on the 2014 Amgen Tour of California, visit www.amgentourofcalifornia.com.
