[News Release] – The City of Santa Clarita will serve as a host city for the Amgen Tour of California Stages 6 and 7, presented by Crunchies Natural Snacks, on Friday, May 16 and Saturday, May 17, 2014, impacting local roads in parts of the Santa Clarita Valley.
The City strongly urges residents and businesses to utilize the City’s website SantaClaritaTourOfCA.com, which contains detailed traffic information, to plan ahead and minimize any commuting inconvenience.
The Stage 6 Start will showcase the newly revitalized Old Town Newhall on Friday, May 16 at the corner of Market and Main Street. Hard closures are expected on Main Street between Lyons Avenue and 6th Street as the world’s top cyclists prepare to leave at 11:35 a.m. The hard closures on Main Street will occur between midday May 15 through the afternoon of May 16, 2014. All lanes will reopen as the peloton races toward the finish at Mountain High North. Residents residing along Placerita Canyon and Sand Canyon Road should expect a 40 minute delay in their commute.
Then on Saturday, May 17, riders will return to Westfield Valencia Town Center for the Stage 7 Start, a familiar location for the Amgen Tour of California. Staff will begin closing the northbound lanes of McBean Parkway and the westbound lanes of Newhall Ranch Road about 10 to 15 minutes before the start of the race. Riders will depart Town Center Drive at 11:40 a.m. and all lanes will reopen as the peloton rides towards Pasadena.
Due to rolling closures, motorists traveling during the time of the event may be delayed. While cyclists race through town, emergency response vehicles will have unimpeded access to the entire Santa Clarita Valley for the duration of the event.
Santa Clarita Transit local service will be affected as cyclists race out of City limits. For updated bus route information on Santa Clarita Transit go to SantaClaritaTransit.com or look for rider alerts at @SCTBus on Twitter.com.
The City will also post up to the minute details as roads are closed and reopened on Facebook and Twitter. For more information regarding traffic impacts, including projected closure times, please call 661-250-3787 or visit SantaClaritaTourOfCA.com.

Dislike – this town is too busy to have this on the weekends.
Good effort, keep up the good work.
Couldn’t this have better served off major thoroughfare’s ?!
Can’t wait to go watch!!
Really a weekend how convenient.
I clicked on the link to “utilize the City’s website SantaClaritaTourOfCA.com, which contains detailed traffic information, to plan ahead and minimize any commuting inconvenience.” Only thing there under traffic delays was a single, vague sentence… So much for being able to plan ahead.
Wow, the comments are here are quite uneducated. It’s the tour, people. It brings a ton of money to our city, and they are short road closures. Use your head and stop being so selfish.
Except for Love is Life. Her comment is great.
Instead of complaining about street closures, we should be proud of all those dedicated cyclists that participate .Also the fact that this event is taking place in our city, should make us proud!!
Good for business. it in Down town Newhall.
So cool! We just watched the rolling start and my kids thought it was awesome!
