[DACC] – February is Spay-Neuter Awareness Month, and the County of Los Angeles Department of Animal Care and Control encourages Californians to support low-cost spay-neuter programs by purchasing a Pet Lover’s License Plate from the Department of Motor Vehicles.
The Pet Lover’s License Plate was created to provide funding for free and low-cost spay and neuter surgeries in an effort to cut down on the number of dogs and cats that are brought to animal shelters each year.
Los Angeles County cares for more than 80,000 animals a year. “It is in everyone’s interest to see the numbers of unwanted animals in our community reduced,” said department director Marcia Mayeda. “Spaying and neutering our pets, is the most important thing pet owners can do to help reach this goal.”
Approximately $40 from each purchased plate will go towards spay & neuter programs throughout the state. The plates can be purchased for $50 for a standard plate or $98 for a personalized plate. The funds generated by sales of the plate will be distributed by grants to qualifying agencies, organizations and individuals to provide low-cost and no-cost spay and neuter to dogs, cats, and (rabbits) in California.
