The High Desert Branch of the American Public Works Association (APWA) has awarded 11 scholarships of $1,500 each to students located in the Santa Clarita, Victor and Antelope Valleys.
Among the recipients this year is Santa Clarita student Ashlyn Hahn from West Ranch High School.
Since 2000, the APWA High Desert Branch has been issuing 10 to 11 scholarships based on preferred majors associated with Public Works, GPA, and financial need. This year, five recipients were returning college students and six were high school seniors.
Past presidents of the APWA High Desert Branch include City of Santa Clarita Director of Public Works, Robert Newman and Assistant City Engineer, Damon Letz.
The purpose of the American Public Works Association (APWA) is the advancement of the theory and practice of the design, construction, maintenance, administration, and operation of public works facilities and services; the dissemination of information and experience upon, and the promotion of improved practices in public works administration; the encouragement of the adherence by public works officials to a high professional standard; the professional and social improvement of its members; and the promotion of cooperation among all public, quasi-public, and private persons, firms, corporations, bodies, utilities, and agencies which have interests in the field of public works.
