On Thursday, August 4, this free event will feature 10-minute performances from 10 different performers at the Repertory East Playhouse, located at 24266 Main Street from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
The night will begin with a performance from The New Mexican, who plays a variety of feet-handling percussion instruments, uses his left hand on slide guitar and his right hand on lead guitar and banjo.
Following this unique music performance will be storytelling by Susanna Lee, an experienced comedian who has been seen on various shows including, “Last Comic Standing,” and also hosts two monthly shows in Los Angeles called “Dirty Birdie Story Hour” and “Bee Funny: Standup Spelling Bee.”
Samantha Hale takes the stage shortly after with another comedic performance. With her unique outlook on life, Samantha likes to push the boundaries with her material and is currently working on her first live stand-up comedy album. She was recently featured on FOX’s “Laughs” and is also the co-host of iHeart Radio’s “The Pandora Boxx Show.”
We follow comedy with the first film of the night, “Murder of Crow,” a dramatic tale co-directed by The Master’s College students Kelli Clark and Cammy Ylo. In the film, a famous author finds herself caught in the middle of a gruesome murder scene in her own home. Shocked and impacted by the death of her own husband and his hidden girlfriend, she decides to write a book which ultimately ends with a twist.
After an enticing film, the night progresses with a musical performance by Steven Kai van Betten, a guitarist, composer and improviser who is actively involved with the creative music scene.
Taking the stage shortly after will be storyteller Pablo Marz, an L.A. native who is an actor, director and teacher. Pablo has performed with ComedySportz L.A., West Coast Ensemble Theatre, iOWest, at the Disney Concert Hall, at the Tropicana Nightclub and at the Getty Center. He is also the creator and producer of the popular storytelling show “Tell It!”
Making its Santa Clarita screening debut is Dustin Reno’s animated short film “Vacancy.” In the film “Vacancy,” an anxious astronaut receives a mysterious signal that leads him to a suburban home drifting through space. While exploring the dark home, he encounters a dark liquid and an orange cable leading him deeper into the structure. The astronaut discovers something more frightening than anything he could have imagined.
For our last performance, Burton Zimmer will take the stage to perform his music for all to enjoy. Burton has many musical influences including Hendrix, Page, Beck, Albert King and many others. He’s played at many clubs and bars in Los Angeles and is also working with a harmonica player preparing for a tour of England.
