1873 - Vasquez gang raids Kingston in (now) Kings County; ties up townspeople, makes off with $2,500 in cash and jewels [story]
Kingston

5th District Supervisor Kathryn BargerOn a 4-1 vote with Supervisor Kathryn Barger opposing, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Tuesday authorized a $3 million agreement with the California Community Foundation to provide legal defense for illegal immigrants facing deportation.

“Our federal immigration system is broken. It is the federal government’s responsibility to support states and counties in their efforts to address the costs of illegal immigration,” Barger said. “Consistent with my position on this issue on December 20, 2016, county taxpayers should not be forced to bear the cost to provide free legal representation for those facing deportation.”

On December 20, 2016, the motion to create the Los Angeles Justice Fund passed on a 4-1 vote. This motion directed the county CEO to identify and set aside $1 million in fiscal year 2016-2017 and up to $2 million in fiscal year 2017-18 with the purpose of providing legal representation to illegal immigrants at risk of deportation.

This funding would be in addition to a $2 million contribution from the City of Los Angeles, and a $5 million contribution from the philanthropic community. These contributions would bring the Los Angeles Justice fund to a total of $10 million.

  2. Shane Weeks says:

Wish we had money for fixing the local roads……

  3. Never support criminal activity. Pathetic!

  4. Illegal means illegal…unfortunately those uneducated idiots don’t know the meaning of ILLEGAL…NOT LEGAL!!!!!

    • My husband’s family…parents and him as a little boy, came here legally from Germany! What a slap in their faces by letting all these “poor pathetic” illegals in our country. If they follow the process and do it legally…no problem, but illegally…big problem!!!!

  5. Claus Langer says:

Sad! Are you serious. Putting resources to illegal immigrants ahead of citizens and community needs. Why have borders why be a country why have laws good grief who does this or thinks this way. Oh yeah no limit on illegal immigrants to attend California’s State Colleges, but US citizens are capped!? Good for Barger she is mainstream US but unfortunately not in wacko California and Los Angeles. Checked the recent special elections?

  6. It will be a good gesture to help those that have been greatful for the opportunity and that are already on the process of adjusting their immigration status. But it sucks that it seems that this will help those that are ungrateful and have broken laws. Their is a difference.

  7. Sally Mehr says:

They broke the law, bottom line, stop with all this nonsense…

  8. Sally Mehr says:

We all need to ask what is in it for the politicians, there has to be something…oh yeah…votes…what a shame

  9. KJ Slo says:

I don’t want one penny of my tax money to go to funding illegals! No to these criminal sanctuary state politicians! Barger is brave to go up against them!

  10. LEGAL citizen’s tax dollars funding LEGAL support to assist/help ILLEGAL individuals stay here ILLEGALLY?! She’s got my vote.

  11. This is absurd and should be illegal to take take taxpayer funds to use for “illegal” activity. Start a charity but don’t put this burden on the taxpayer. No one financially helped my father’s family emigrate here (legally btw).

  12. Bart Joseph says:

The path to citizenship has been on the books since the 80s. If you haven’t filed papers since then, its hard to argue patriotism. I get the “refugees” from the south american civil wars, but thats been in the last 10 years refugees. One year an move on

  13. William Reel says:

I-L-L-E-G-A-L / Libtards hate Law and Order.

  14. Nope. Get out illegals. Come back when you have documentation.

  15. Could have used the money for roads ,dams, etc. No votes for you.

  16. jessica says:

Thanks for another freebies to illegals! Californians rock the world with freebies. Welcome to Democrat State!!

  17. And it should be slammed HELLO…illegal is the operative word!

  18. Our politicians should be encouraging people to come here legally not support them if they are here illegally!!!

  19. Taxes are to support citizens, and our country. No where else can an illegal get services paid for by taxes.
The philanthropic fund is a compassionate option for those moved to help. It has worked for years.
California seems to gobble up taxes without full representation. Where did the money to repair the roads go from that gas tax years ago??

  20. Thank you K. Barger for standing your ground and offering your sound reason to our immigrant issues in this country. The solution is not to pay for their defence. Thanks for being willing to stand alone. I am so glad you are in office.

  21. Ron Olson says:

The beauty of a santuary state. Take back your state from the liberal aholes in charge.

  22. Way to stand up against this atrocity! Dink O’Neal

  23. Well done Barger #ca4maga ??

  24. Gee Miguel says:

It’s California, itll never change, that’s why people move.

  25. Why is it my responsibility to pay with my taxes that I pay out of my paycheck legally, and pay for their lawyers when they are the ones breaking the law and NOT PAYING TAXES!!! Come on people seriously??? Barger thank you for trying to stand up for what is right. PS $3million isn’t going to cover crap in lawyers fees. Will all be gone in a BLINK OF AN EYE!

  26. Why is it my responsibility to pay with my taxes that I pay out of my paycheck legally, and pay for their lawyers when they are the ones breaking the law and NOT PAYING TAXES!!!
