A Santa Clarita man suspected of breaking into several apartments and homes and allegedly sexually assaulting one woman was charged today, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.
Russell Malcom Harris, 34, is scheduled to be arraigned sometime after 2:30 p.m. today in Department 30 at the Foltz Criminal Justice Center in case BA449338. Prosecutors will ask that bail be set at $2.3 million.
Deputy District Attorney Teresa De Castro with the Sex Crimes Division is prosecuting the case.
Harris allegedly broke into a woman’s home on August 1 and sexually touched her before fleeing. That same day, he allegedly broke into three more residences. On August 2, he allegedly broke into or tried to break into an additional three residences.
He is charged with one count of assault to commit rape during commission of a first-degree burglary; four counts of first-degree burglary with a person present; one count of first-degree residential burglary and one count of attempted first-degree residential burglary. The complaint alleges Harris has prior convictions in the state of New York.
If convicted, Harris faces up to life in state prison.
The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department.
