The California Transportation Commission is allocating $130 million to rehabilitate the Interstate 5 freeway from Vista Del Lago Road at Lake Pyramid to the Kern County line at Fort Tejon, Caltrans announced Aug. 11.
The money, which comes in part from the 2006 voter approved Proposition 1B transportation bond, will be used to improve safety and ride quality on the stretch of roadway.
The allocation is part of a bigger package of statewide road improvements totaling $2.2 billion, including improvemens to the 710 Long Beach Freeway and the 60 Pomona Freeway from the 605 to the 57. Also, $131.6 million will be used to construct HOV lanes on U.S. 101 from Mussel Shoals in Ventura County to an area south of Casitas Pass Road.
“We are putting transportation dollars to work creating jobs and making transportation improvements that will benefit Californians now and for decades to come,” Acting Caltrans Director Malcolm Dougherty said in a statement.
