Santa Clarita Valley sheriff’s deputies were investigating the scene of a two-car collision in Canyon Country on Thursday that sent six people to the hospital.
The crash occurred on Sierra Highway, south of American Beauty.
“It sounds like the one car didn’t see the other car and turned left right in front of it,” said Lt. Mark Hershey of the Sheriff’s Station, adding that the cause of the crash was still under investigation.
Three of the occupants were transferred to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in critical condition, and three who were less severely injured were transferred to Northridge Hospital.
One passenger’s injuries are considered extremely serious, according to officials.
The wet weather did not appear to be a factor in the crash, he said. Preliminary reports did not indicate the presence of intoxicants in either of the vehicles.
All lanes are currently blocked on Sierra Highway between American Beauty and Mirror Way.
Southbound traffic on Sierra Highway is being diverted to Sand Canyon Road as the traffic division investigates the scene of the crash.
The identities of the vehicles’ occupants were not immediately available.
