Registration is now open for summer Youth Theatre Institute workshops for kids and teens at the Canyon Theatre Guild in Old Town Newhall.
Confidence, teamwork, creativity, social skills and friendship: These are just a few of the things a child learns when he or she participates in the magic of live theatre.
Santa Clarita Valley children and teens are invited to join the Canyon Theatre Guild this summer for fun-filled workshops on a real stage in a vibrant, working theatre.
Each workshop is taught by seasoned professionals who love theatre and love children.
Canyon Theatre Guild also makes sure each child will get the full experience by limiting class sizes, so each child gets extensive instruction in acting, singing, performing and all other aspects of theatre.
Each workshop ends with a professionally produced show for friends, family and the public. From costumes, lights, sound, and props to acting, singing, and movement, children learn what it takes to create a full-fledged show on a professional stage.
For children reading age to age 10, CTG Kids will perform the adorable show, “‘Twas the Week After Christmas,” a hilarious and heartwarming story about what happens when the North Pole loses the Christmas spirit. It’s been years since the Elves and Reindeer have gotten along. The Reindeer egos are high and Elves’ productivity is low. Will a week of vacation help remind the Elves and Reindeer what Christmas is all about?
Kids ages 10-13 love CTG Juniors. This three-week workshop will take kids back to the ’60s with the outlandish show, “Pom Pom Zombies.” It’s the 1960s – school’s out for the summer and the teenagers of Ocean View High are ready to have some fun. Their favorite hangout is Barnacle Betty’s Beach Club, which is next door to the Evil Ivana Ratnik’s Nuclear power plant. But, oops! The head cheerleader accidentally gets some nuclear slime on her hot dog instead of pickle relish. Soon the beach is overrun with Pom-pom wielding zombies.
For your teenagers, 13-18, the Guild’s CTG Jack Oakie Stars will perform “Frozen Jr.” in a four-week workshop, A story of true love and acceptance between sisters, “Frozen Jr.” expands upon the emotional relationship and journey between Princesses Anna and Elsa. When faced with danger, the two discover their hidden potential and the powerful bond of sisterhood. With a cast of beloved characters and loaded with magic, adventure and plenty of humor, “Frozen Jr.” is sure to thaw even the coldest heart.
This summer, the CTG will premiere FIRST ACT, a new class for children in pre-K through 6 years old who will perform “Baby Beluga: A Musical Revue.” Kids will shake their sillies out and wiggle their waggles away: “Baby Beluga” is going on a new adventure down by the bay. Rediscover the delightful music and hilarious lyrics of popular children’s songwriter, Raffi.
Whether your child wishes to pursue a career in the arts or just wants to have a ton of fun, the Canyon Theatre Guild summer workshops is the place to be.
All classes will be held at the CTG, 24242 Main Street, Newhall 91321.
Call the CTG box office at 661-799-2702 to give your child the gift of live theatre.
