The Canyon and West Ranch boys basketball teams will try to keep their seasons alive tonight in the second round of the CIF playoffs.
Canyon, the second-seeded team in the Division 2AA playoffs, is on the road against Tesoro. The Cowboys routed Godinez, 70-29, in the first round.
Eighth-seeded West Ranch is home against ninth-seeded Edison in the Division 1A playoffs. The Wildcats eliminated Paramount, 72-62, in the first round.
It’s going to be a busy day at West Ranch High School. The boys soccer team is home for its second-round playoff game against Paramount.
The Wildcats beat Cabrillo from Lompoc, 2-1, in overtime in the first round of the Division 3 playoffs.
The Santa Clarita Christian boys are on the road to play the Academy for Academic Excellence in the second round of the Division 7 playoffs. Santa Clarita Christian shut out La Sierra Academy, 8-0, in the first round.
In college basketball, the College of the Canyons men are making their first postseason appearance since 2007.
The COC men are the No. 20 seed in the California Community College Athletic Association Southern California Regional playoffs and will play 13th-seeded L.A. Valley College on Wednesday.
The College of the Canyons women are the No. 12 seed in the Southern California Regional playoffs and will play fifth-seeded Gahr on Saturday.
The CIF Southern Section preseason polls are out for baseball, softball and boys volleyball. Valencia is well-represented.
The Valencia baseball team is ranked No. 8 in the Division 1 preseason poll. JW North is the top-ranked team in Division 1.
The Valencia softball team is No. 6 in the Division 1 preseason poll. Santiago Corona is No. 1 in Division 1.
The Valencia boys volleyball team is No. 4 in the Division 2 preseason poll. But the Vikings are not the only team from the Foothill League in the preseason top 10.
Hart comes in at No. 8. Corona Del Mar is the No. 1 team in Division 2.
In hockey, the Kings are on the road against the Phoenix Coyotes tonight. The Kings have lost four of their past five games and were shut out in their past two games.
They are coming off a 1-0 loss to the Calgary Flames on Saturday.
