The California Highway Patrol Newhall Area Office will conduct a sobriety checkpoint in the unincorporated area of the Santa Clarita Valley on Friday night, the office announced Friday morning.
The checkpoint will begin at approximately 6:30 p.m. Friday and end at approximately 2:30 a.m. Saturday.
The location will be announced just prior to the operation.
Motorists approaching the checkpoint will see informational signs advising them of a sobriety checkpoint ahead.
Once diverted into the lane, motorists will be detained only momentarily while an officer explains the purpose of the checkpoint.
The goal of the DUI checkpoint is to create awareness among the motoring public, to deter people from driving under the influence, and to keep the streets safe for all.
Although checkpoints tend to reduce the number of drinking drivers on the road, the CHP will apprehend D.U.I. drivers who fail to heed our warnings.
Even though arrest totals do not rise dramatically, the psychological influence a checkpoint has on the motoring public is invaluable.
Sobriety checkpoints are conducted in accordance to the guidelines for checkpoint operations outlined in the Supreme Court decision, Ingersol vs. Palmer. Traffic volume permitting, all vehicles will be checked.
If traffic volume becomes too heavy, vehicles to be checked will be selected by a pre-set standard, such as every 5th or 10th vehicle, in order to assure objectivity.
For further information, please feel free to contact California Highway Patrol Public Information Officer Josh Greengard at 661-294-5540.

Thank you
Yeah ! That’s real smart!
Stop the check point right after the bars close?
?? ?? ??
Who’s the genius in charge of that idea?!??
And while we’re at it why don’t we just tell them where it’s going to be too! ??
Thank you!

Your papers are not in order.
Book um Dano!!!
This is the stupidest thing I have ever heard… no wonder criminals are out in the streets… Why are these announcing the time and place ahead of time, so the DUI drivers can avoid them???
They don’t announce the location ahead of time. As for “why,” because checkpoints have been successfully challenged in court. If they aren’t announced ahead of time, any arrests get thrown out.
They do have to announce it, and even say they do “The location will be announced just prior to the operation”…goes on to say “Sobriety checkpoints are conducted in accordance to the guidelines for checkpoint operations outlined in the Supreme Court decision, Ingersol vs. Palmer.” Its pretty simple people.
Don’t drink and drive,
Don’t drive while under the influence of medication or any other recently approved drug, and don’t have illegal crap in your car, make sure registration and insurance is current and that you have your drivers license with you and you wont have any issues.
