The Santa Clarita City Council will be looking to adopt the 2016 Arts Master Plan during its meeting Tuesday night.
The arts plan has been in the works since 1997 and aims have the city of Santa Clarita “be recognized as a “city of the arts,” where the lives of residents, artists and visitors are enriched through artistic and cultural experiences”, according to the staff report.
The Cultural Planning Group has lead the advancement of the plan and over the past 14 months researched the background of the project, talked to residents and officials in Santa Clarita and used community feedback to do a full analysis of the draft plan.
The group came up with three main themes that will serve as a backbone. The first theme aims to enhance public art, make Old Town Newhall an entertainment hub and provide more support for arts education.
The second theme will aim to strengthen support systems for art and artists. The third theme will aim to foster more diversity and inclusion, according to the staff report.
The city plans to take the lead on implementing each of the themes and the accompanying 41 recommendations but it will also take the collaborative efforts of the school districts, colleges, businesses, artists and others to make the plan work.
