[KHTS] – The Santa Clarita City Council unanimously voted to establish the speed limit along the recently opened Golden Valley Road extension at its meeting on Tuesday night.
A 50 mile-per-hour speed limit was established on Golden Valley Road, between Newhall Ranch Road and 70 feet north of Claremore Way.
The speed limit was established to be consistent “within the Los Angeles County section to the north,” according to Tuesday’s agenda.
The Golden Valley Road extension, which connects Newhall Ranch Road to Bouquet Canyon Road via Plum Canyon Road, was opened to the public in late September.
Rick Gould, director of parks, recreation and community services for the city of Santa Clarita, said in a previous story that he believes the Golden Valley Road extension will change traffic patterns on the north side of the city.
California cities, counties, and other state agencies must establish speed limits on the basis of an engineering and traffic survey, pursuant to the California Vehicle Code, or CVC, to allow patrol officers to enforce speed limits through the use of radar or laser, according to Tuesday’s agenda.
Staff with the city of Santa Clarita completed the survey as defined by the CVC on the recently completed section of Golden Valley Road, between Newhall Ranch Road and 70 feet north of Claremore Way, according to Tuesday’s agenda.

No I know it’s for the new part. Thought it was already 50mph
Might aswell make all streets 60 since thats how fast all these stupid santa clarita drivers be driving anyway
Yep, it’s ridiculous, everyone is always trying to get that one car ahead of you! Or they drive on your ass if you do go the speed limit. I hope they start giving tickets too on that road.
Needs to be Lowered
Sean you are so right.
Why
Doesn’t matter 50 or 60 mph people are gonna speed and soon we will see more candles to the side of the road. They should put those little speed dot things or something.
Ticket the area heavily. Let’s make money for the city.
The Sheriffs don’t write tickets so it doesn’t matter what the speed limit is.
Sounds to me like they want more of us to die. Diabolical.
