The College of the Canyons softball program invites youth softball players from across the region to participate in the 2019 COC Softball Summer Clinic on Friday, July 12, starting at 9 a.m.
Open to youth players ages 10 to 14, this single day, two-part clinic will include instructional sessions for both pitching and hitting.
Clinic sessions will be run by Cougars softball head coach John Wissmath and former player and COC alumna Katie Taix.
Both sessions will place an emphasis on strengthening current skill sets while introducing new techniques. Open to beginning, intermediate and advanced skill levels, this clinic will help all players take their game to the next level. See below for individual clinic descriptions:
Pitching Clinic — Players will be taught basic pitching mechanics with specific instruction on topics including how to improve your spin, location, movement, and speed. Participants will work through a variety of drills designed to strengthen current skill sets and introduce new techniques.
Players signed up for the pitching portion of the clinic are asked to provide their own catcher and bring two softballs (catchers will NOT be charged for attendance). It’s also recommended that all players wear cleats.
Hitting Clinic — Instructors will demonstrate a variety of proven hitting techniques through the use of specific batting drills designed to instill the basic fundamentals of hitting. Players signed up for the hitting portion of the clinic are asked to provide their own bat and helmet. It’s also recommended that all players wear cleats.
Sessions are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. (pitching) and 11:30 a.m. (hitting) on Friday, July 12, at Whitten Field located on the COC Valencia campus at 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road in Santa Clarita.
Registration for the 2019 COC softball summer clinic is $35 for players attending only one session of the clinic and $55 for players attending both sessions, with online pre-registration. Walk-up registration will be $40 for one session or $60 for two sessions (please make check payable to COC/ASG and write softball clinic in the memo line).
