MOORPARK — College of the Canyons had three runners finish top-10 in both races, as the Cougars turned in a strong showing at the Moorpark College Raider & Roar Invitational on Friday.
The meet was the final event prior to the Western State Conference Championships later this month.
COC’s men’s team ran to a second place team finish to represent its best performance of the season.
Canyons freshman Jacob Acosta was fifth overall to lead the way with a time of 22:14.6 on the four-mile course that rolled through the Moorpark athletic facilities and ended on the Griffin Stadium track.
Sebastian Holding (22:46.8) was ninth overall followed by Hunter Covarrubias (22:47.9) and Brannon Barber (22:58.5) in 10th and 11th, respectively. Donmiguel White-Carrington (24:15.15) was 19th in the field of 34 entries.
Event host Moorpark (19) won the event, followed by Canyons (54), West L.A. (56) and Santa Monica (89).
COC sophomore Amanda Finn was the top runner for the women’s squad with a fourth-place time of 20:25.7 on the 5K course.
Sophomores Samantha Bell (21:01.1) and Celeste Gonzalez (21:32.5) took the eighth and ninth spots, and freshman Graciela Torres (24:13.5) was 17th.
The Lady Cougars only entered four runners in the event and thus did not factor into the team scoring. Moorpark won the women’s race to sweep the meet with West L.A. taking runner-up status.
